Grain Design
Grain is a design practice founded by Chelsea and James Minola, based on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Established in 2008, the studio focuses on furniture, lighting, and objects that emphasize sustainability and responsible production. Both designers studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their work combines traditional craft techniques with contemporary manufacturing processes, often produced in small batches or through collaborations with artisans. Grain’s designs have been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Metropolis, and Elle Decor, and are distributed internationally through retail and gallery channels. The studio’s approach reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility, material integrity, and long-term usability, situating their work within broader conversations around sustainable design.
