Susan Kare
Susan Kare is an American graphic designer best known for her pioneering work in computer interface design. She studied fine arts at New York University, where she later earned a Ph.D. In the early 1980s, Kare joined Apple, where she designed many of the original icons, typefaces, and graphic elements for the Macintosh computer. Her work helped establish visual conventions for digital interfaces that remain influential today. She later worked with Steve Jobs at NeXT as its tenth employee and Creative Director. In 1989, she was the founding partner of Susan Kare Design, a graphic design practice in San Francisco. Over the course of her career, she has created icons and visual systems for companies including Microsoft and Facebook. Kare’s work is included in major museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art. Her practice bridges graphic design and digital innovation, shaping the visual language of personal computing.
